East Coast Beer Co. Joins Second Annual International Great Beer Expo

Winter Rental Makes its Debut

Point Pleasant Beach, NJ (January 30, 2012) –The Jersey Shore’s upstart beer company, East Coast Beer Co., will participate once again in the Annual International Great Beer Expo, but this year they will not only share their flagship beer, Beach Haus® Classic American Pilsner, but they will also show off their latest brew, Beach Haus® Winter Rental. The event, a beer tasting extravaganza with some of the best American and International breweries, will be held on Saturday, February 4th at the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus, New Jersey.

The Great Beer Expo will host more than 50 breweries from Japan, Germany, France, Belgium, Italy, Ireland, Mexico, Austria, Nicaragua, Thailand, Poland, New Zealand, Indonesia, Sweden, China, and more. Each of these countries will provide samples of their country’s proudest brewing achievement, and so will East Coast Beer Co.

“Last year’s event went really well for us,” said John ‘Merk’ Merklin. “It was a great opportunity for us to meet some industry folks, as well as our fans, and talk about what we love – beer.”

“This year, we are in an even better position,” added Brian Ciriaco. “Beach Haus® Classic American Pilsner has been on the market over a year now and we launched Beach Haus® Winter Rental, our seasonal black lager, a few months ago and we are getting ready to launch yet another beer. We are definitely excited to share our news and beer with fellow beer enthusiasts.”

East Coast Beer Co. will be debuting their second brew, launched in October of 2011, Beach Haus® Winter Rental.  This seasonal lager was inspired by the German Schwarzbier – a hearty, yet soft and elegant brew that brings comfort to the late fall and winter months, and is a darker beer with roasted malts and a hint of chocolate. Less hoppy than its predecessor Beach Haus® Classic American Pilsner, Winter Rental is yet another full-flavored, accessible style to add to the East Coast Beer Co. selection.
Their flagship beer, Beach Haus® Classic American Pilsner, will also be available for tasting at the event. This particular brew, which has spurred the creation of not only Beach Haus® Winter Rental, but a third beer to be announced soon, is a refreshing  classic american pilsner that is reminiscent of the old German-American style of brewing. The full-flavored, pre-prohibition style Pilsner uses all-American ingredients, including Mt. Hood Hops, and is brewed to perfection reflecting a unique taste and style of the Jersey Shore.

Tickets for the event are $40 purchased online, in advance of the event, and $55 at the door; however, they are limited and selling quickly according to their website, www.greatbeerexpo.com/meadowlands. They are even selling $10 tickets for designated drivers, encouraging all their guests to be safe and not drink and drive.

The event is also a sponsor of the Beer for Brains Foundation, which is a national, nonprofit organization of craft-beer lovers, distributors and brewers who are committed to raising public awareness about brain cancer, engendering compassion for its victims and helping fund groundbreaking research leading to a cure. The money raised goes to support the development of cutting-edge brain cancer research and treatment options at the new Barrow Brain Tumor Research Center (BBTRC), in Phoenix, AZ.

New Social Media Agglomeration Launches Offering FREE Promotion to Its Users

Everywhere, USA (January 18, 2011) –  A new online medium that merges the best components of popular social media sites, will launch late January 2012. The Road Code, created, designed, and implemented by co-founders Paul Brocky and Tom Catuosco, along with a team of programmers, makes obtaining information on-the-go, easy and FREE. This online FREEway for advertising is peeling out onto the World Wide Web and will allow users to log on and create their own mini website to promote anything their heart desires with an easy-to-use 4-character alpha-numerical code.

“I have used a number of social media outlets, tried new-fangled ways to access information quickly through my smartphone, but those ways were never quite what I wanted or needed,” said Paul. “Whether you are a consumer, realtor, or business professional, this website allows users to gain information and utilize more useful ways for sales forces, such as realtors and car dealerships, to disseminate the most current information, all while being easy enough for the average Joe to use.”

Paul developed the concept after driving home one winter’s night to discover his dream home was finally for sale. He pulled over his car to get the information from the sign but could not find a pen, pencil or piece of paper in his car, nor was there an easy way to pull up all the information on his smart phone. A little down-trodden, but eager to find the answer, he hurried home with a new-found determination, not only for the house, but for a better way to get information easily and quickly from the road.

After a few months of concepting and planning, Paul – The Traffic Controller -  teamed up with his long-time high-school buddy, Tom – the Techie Translator –, and began building The Road Code in early March of 2011. They will finally come to see the fruits of their labor in the New Year.

“There was certainly a need for this kind of technology,” said Tom. “We spent a lot of time really dissecting the most essential pieces to the most popular social media sites and combined it with what we wanted as a consumer. It’s a great tool for businesses, consumers and really anyone that wants to promote or get information about something – and for free. It’s been a great experience thus far and we’re really excited to launch this to the public.  We hope see you on the FREEway!”

The Road Code, found at www.TheRoadCode.com, is an online informational website that allows users to create their own mini websites that lets them post the who, what, when, where, why about anything they want to promote. Once they have put in all this information into a profile, complete with picture and video capabilities, they are given a four-digit code to use in their marketing and promotional efforts, as well as the ability to print The Road Code signs to post with this unique code. And the best part about the site is that it’s FREE!

Apps are also available for FREE for BlackBerry, Smartphones, i-Pads, and i-Phones.

Fast Facts:

  • All codes expire in 90-days (if not updated or renewed)
  • Any user can have an UNLIMITED number of codes
  • Users can add keywords and meta tags for increased visibility on The Road
  • Free PDF Templates of the users created code to download and print
  • FREE Downloadable Apps available: iPhone, iPad, Blackberry, Smartphones including Android
  • Website re-direction for those that already have an existing website

Still to come:

  • A section for optional comments for each code’s homepage
  • User Profile ability
  • Vanity and Personalized codes

About The Road Code

The Road Code was created and developed by two long-time friends, Paul Brocky and Tom Catuso in March of 2011 and launched as a FREE social media agglomeration that allows users to share information in a new and exciting way. Paul’s previous life experience in the “real estate world” sparked the idea that lets “drivers” on The Road Code create their own mini-site, which allows them to put the 5 W’s of whatever they would like – whether it’s an event, a realtor selling a home, someone selling their car, or whatever your heart might desire – and get a four-character code that can be put into the Road Code site (www.TheRoadCode.com), or the free app, and all that information will be displayed. Complete with photo and video capabilities, the site truly allows people to promote their wares, events, existing websites or services for FREE.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Walk the Line at the Milford Theatre’s Tribute to Johnny Cash

Michael Patrick’s Ring of Fire Band to Perform

Milford, PA (January 18, 2012) – The musical sounds of the one of the most influential musicians of the 20th Century, Johnny Cash, can be heard at the tribute concert by Michael Patrick’s Ring of Fire Band on Saturday, February 18th at 8:00 p.m. at the Milford Theatre located at 114 East Catharine Street in Milford, PA.

Tickets for the performance are $20.00 in advance for general seating or $25.00 day of show. They are on sale now and can be purchased at Upriver Home located at 202 Broad Street in Milford, or online at www.MilfordTheatre.com.

A Grammy-award winning singer-songwriter, actor, author, father and husband only begins to describe the “Man in Black,” Johnny Cash. Perhaps one of the first musical artists to bend genres, Cash’s music was more than just country, or even rock and roll; his sounds were crossovers into the blues, folk and gospel genres, winning the affections of nearly all music lovers in his heyday.

Michael Patrick’s Ring of Fire Band will capture everything that was Johnny Cash during their tribute performance at the Milford Theatre. These “Suburban Hillbillies” found themselves captivated by the simplicity, sincerity, and expressive deep voices exuded in the music by Cash, and have spent the last number of years paying tribute to the musical legend. Performing songs such as “Ring of Fire”, “Walk the Line”, “Folsom Prison Blues”, and “Man in Black”, Michael Patrick’s Ring of Fire Band will bring you back to the birth of rock ‘n’ roll.

Stemming from central New Jersey, Michael Patrick’s Ring of Fire Band is an offspring of the successful country-rock group named The Suburban Hillbillies. In recent years the group and its members have shared the stage with Mary Stuart, John Carter Cash, Steve Earle, Hot Tuna, The Outlaws, Gary Allan, Jimmy Tittle, Marshall Tucker Band, Commander Cody, Bill Kirchen, David Allan Coe and many more.

Born Minus Can Also Be Found Nationally Online

Nanuet, NY (January 12, 2012) –   Born Minus, From Shoeshine Boy to News Publisher, An Italian-American Journey, written by local author Armand Miele, is now available for purchase at Meadowlark Toys and Gifts and Sunbridge College Bookstore in Chestnut Ridge, NY, as well as DeLillio Pasticceria and Cerini’s Coffee and Gifts in Bronx, NY. The stores selling the book are accessible locations to their surrounding communities and the bookstore is one of only a few independent bookstores left in the area. Born Minus was also recently added to BarnesAndNobles.com, Amazon.com, and Lulu.com

“We’re so excited to share my father’s book with these independent stores,” said Donna Miele, Armand Miele’s daughter. “It’s great to know that the community wants to get involved in this book. The writing of it was an undertaking for not only my father, but also for our family. Being able to finally share it with the world is something that my father always wanted to do and we are forever grateful for our supporters.”

Over the course of the last eight decades, Armand Miele has seen many things come and go, as well as some things change for the better and some for the worse.  After living a difficult life through the Great Depression, WWII, and a myriad of other historical events, Armand managed to not only change his fate as a poor Italian-American immigrant, but also turn himself into a successful business man in an ever-changing economic climate. Born Minus, From Shoeshine Boy to News Publisher, An Italian-American Journey,  is an inspiring book about one man’s journey through life, beating the odds and coming out on top.

Armand Miele was born into an immigrant Italian family in the Bronx, NY during the Great Depression, born minus the advantages and comforts of many Americans. After growing up with less than zero, he built successful businesses in the New York metropolitan area, defeated terminal cancer, and survived the devastating loss of a child. In his senior years, he revived the weekly Rockland County Times from bankruptcy, restoring a local institution and staunchly supporting the independent press.

“The story of Armand Miele is the story of America – one man’s fascinating journey through the landscape of the real American dream,” writes Dylan Skriloff, Editor-in-Chief of the Rockland County Times. “Miele has lived through a lot of history and doesn’t mind sharing what he’s seen, as you will see in the book. You will often note his conservative political thinking in action, in a way that is not portrayed in the mainstream media.”

The book is split into two parts; the first part, Born Minus, a Memoir is dedicated to Mr. Miele’s life. Chapters like “The Suit: A Gentleman’s Work” and “Ofelia: A Love So Far above Me”, let readers journey through Mr. Miele’s labors of life.

The second part, Miele’s Musings, is a collection of Mr. Miele’s Op-Ed columns, published in the Rockland County Times over the last thirteen years. From “New Deal Taxes: Will ‘Change’ Be Any Different” and “Greedy Fakers and Crooks” to “What’s ‘American-Italian’” and “The Fear of Cancer”, readers will connect with Mr. Miele’s old-school sensibilities as he discusses critical points about our government and society.

Born Minus, From Shoeshine Boy to News Publisher, An Italian-American Journey, is the story of Armand Miele and America. The book, independently published, is available online and in stores. For a complete list of where you can find a copy of the book, please visit www.BornMinus.com.

Pike County Restaurant Named Best Restaurant in Hudson Valley

Matamoras, PA (January 10¸ 2012) – Local Pike County Restaurant, Two Rivers Grille, was named best restaurant in the Hudson Valley in the “Best of 2011” issue of the Times Herald Record. With thousands of restaurants in the Hudson Valley, Two Rivers Grille, located at 611 Pennsylvania Avenue in Matamoras and owned by Chef Daniel Weber and his wife Christina, beat out the other restaurants for their inventive cuisine, attentive service and friendly, casual atmosphere.

“It was a tough decision to open our restaurant in the height of a recession,” said Chef Weber. “We have worked really hard to build our brand and reputation for creative, healthy cuisine paired with a casual atmosphere and it has paid off. It feels really good to be recognized for our efforts.”

Chef Weber, a Pennsylvania Culinary Institute graduate, fell in love with cooking while working at what was once the Port Jervis County Club. Having worked in multiple kitchens as an Executive Sous Chef, as well as Executive Chef, he realized that his love and passion of cooking had reached a new high – he wanted to open his own restaurant.

Opened nearly two years ago in April, Two Rivers Grille marries an everyday menu with an elaborate twist, featuring fresh ingredients from local farms. A few of the favorites that Executive Chef, turned Restaurateur, Daniel Weber brings to the table includes Pan-seared Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes with Red Pepper remoulade and basil oil; Shrimp and Asparagus Risotto with shaved Pecorino Romano scented with truffle; and Flambéed Flat Iron Steak au Poivre with a brandy peppercorn sauce.

In honor of their two-year anniversary, Two Rivers Grille will launch a new menu with a seasonal flair. Chef Weber will start changing the menu more regularly, most likely twice a year, to reflect the local, seasonal foods that patrons will find on the menu. The restaurant will still offer specials that will supplement the new menu.

Two Rivers Grille is open Tuesday through Saturday and serves brunch only on Sundays. For more information or to make a reservation, please visit www.tworiversgrille.com or call 570.491.2020.

Trepid Reader to Enthused Fan of Armand Miele and the Proverbial American Dream

Trepid Reader to Enthused Fan of Armand Miele and the Proverbial American Dream

By: Katrina Foster

December 8, 2011

For more reasons than one, as most editors, reviewers and writers can agree, I was more than trepid about the task of reading a self-published book about the American Dream in the eyes of an Italian-American from the Bronx during the Great Depression. Worried about the flow of the book and the writer’s ability to keep the interest of the reader by telling a story and not a timeline of events, I precariously took the book with me on my vacation to South Beach, Miami. I figured that if nothing else failed, I could pretend to read it while scoping out hard bodies on the beach.

To my surprise, the book did not play into my generalized preconceived idiosyncrasies, and it became much more than a beard to my beach watching activities…I couldn’t put it down.

Armand Miele, although I am sure he shared a number of similar experiences with other Italian-Americans during the Great Depression, was able to share his childhood with a familiarity that allows even the most out-of-touch reader to identify with having to shine shoes, sell grocery bags for nickels, and feeling guilty about buying a piece of chocolate cake with your earnings because it should go to the family for survival. His constant struggle through childhood, adolescence and even trying to graduate from high school was a real eye-opener to a younger generation that cannot comprehend the prejudice that existed against other nationalities in the ‘20s and ‘30s.

His earnest ability to muster through the education system to get his degree and then be forced into the military, like so many his age at that time, to only face more discrimination and bigotry, is a disheartening, yet enlightening story of the broken governmental systems that were and are still in place today.

Mr. Miele takes the reader on a winding, hard knocks journey about facing discrimination head-on, keeping your head held high, and working towards your dreams – and he managed to reach those dreams, despite the many obstacles he faced throughout his life. From being taken advantage by a business partner and being of the first to have celiac disease, to cancer and the death of a child, Mr. Miele fluidly proved himself as an entrepreneur, a son, a brother, a husband, a father, a friend and most sincerely, as a man; and not just a man, a man who worked and fought for what he wanted and what he believed in – the American Dream.

It’s not often a self-published book has the ability to catch and hold the reader’s attention from start to finish and make them fall in love with the story, but Mr. Miele does exactly that. As a reader, I experienced every emotion that love is made of – anger, fear, sadness and an overwhelming joy and happiness. Read it with a glass of Pinot Noir for sure.

Lake Adventure Continues to Seek Approval from Township

Dingman Township Spending Thousands of Dollars in Courts

Dingmans Ferry, PA (December 6, 2011) – For the last year, Lake Adventure Community Association has been requesting that Dingman Township officials recognize one-piece 12-foot-wide recreational vehicle park trailers as a natural expansion of recreational vehicles for placement in Lake Adventure.  Since Lake Adventure’s inception in the early 1970’s, recreational vehicle park trailers of a full slide-out nature have been placed in the Community. Furthermore, prior to 2010, Dingman Township did not require any placement permits for any type of recreational vehicle or recreational vehicle park trailer in Lake Adventure. Despite Lake Adventure’s best efforts to provide Dingman Township with voluminous and adequate documentation that one-piece 12-foot-wide recreational vehicles are now standard in the camping industry, and better for the Community as a whole, Dingman Township continues to prevent the placement.  Dingman Township has enacted zoning directed solely against Lake Adventure and battles Lake Adventure on the placement of one-piece 12-foot-wide recreational vehicles.  It is believed that Dingman Township has spent upward of $50,000.00 of the Dingman Township taxpayers’ money.

For a majority of the recreational vehicle industry’s life-cycle, all recreational vehicle manufacturers built eight-foot-wide tip outs or slide-outs that would be expanded to 12-feet-wide at the site location/campground. However, several years ago the entire recreational vehicle industry began manufacturing a more efficient one-piece recreational vehicle that is commonly referred to as a one-piece, 12-foot wide recreational vehicle park trailer.  These newer recreational vehicle park trailers are still only 400 square feet. The major difference is these recreational vehicle park trailers are now delivered to the campsite in one-piece but are still hauled by the same trailers that hauled the original 8 foot-wide recreational vehicles also known as full slide-outs.  It is interesting to note that Route 739 is not a Township road, it is a State road.

“Our biggest concern with this ongoing dispute with Dingman Township, is simply that if we don’t allow these more efficient, attractive and less costly one-piece recreational vehicle park trailers, the community will become less appealing to current and potential land-owners,” said Artie Berkey, Lake Adventure Community Association, Inc. Board of Directors President. “It’s imperative that we are able to allow our property owners to upgrade their recreational vehicles and have an enjoyable experience within the community; because without it, it’s more than just Lake Adventure that suffers, it’s the County and the local area businesses. Lake Adventure property owners pay taxes, patronize the area businesses and they are good people that just want to be treated fairly.”

To prove to Dingman Township that Lake Adventure is a good neighbor, Lake Adventure has spent thousands of dollars for various reports and studies to prove to Dingman Township that the community is abiding by all the laws, statutes, and regulations set forth by the many different entities. In spite of all the evidence, Dingman Township continues to spend thousands of taxpayers’ dollars in a frivolous nature by excluding one-piece recreational vehicles in its zoning definition by requiring that no recreational vehicle park trailer can be placed in Lake Adventure if it requires a special hauling permit.

The Lake Adventure Community Association has spent more than $6 million dollars upgrading its infrastructure. In addition Lake Adventure operates well within the Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) regulations, the Community Association consistently addresses any issues in a swift and expeditious manner.  Lake Adventure has recently been working on the installation of a new system to meet the environmental changes. In just the last two months, 25 leaks were repaired, the layout of the water tower was configured, the final water tower plans were submitted to Dingman Township and the installation of a sewer plant de-nitrification project is anticipated in the near future.

The Lake Adventure Community Association’s ongoing plans include many projects consisting of upgrades to the sewer and water systems including but not limited to lateral/leak repairs, lift station replacement, water tank installation, electrical upgrades, generator upgrades, and the replacement of water hydrants. Clearly all the above actions demonstrate Community awareness and environmental responsibility.  Dingman Township officials in a recent news article claimed they want to work with Lake Adventure however; the limiting restriction regarding special hauling permits in their Zoning definition is contrary to their verbal assertions.  The actions of Dingman Township are preventing Lake Adventure property owners from utilizing their lands and are inconsistent with the Pennsylvania Definition of a recreational vehicle park trailer.

In the last decade, the Lake Adventure Community Association has not only improved its facilities but has given back to the community.  In efforts to support the surrounding community, Lake Adventure employs 20 local residents in year round positions such as security, property management, and office staff. To help further stimulate the local economy, Lake Adventure encourages all vacationers to shop and dine in the area as well renting the kitchen in Lake Adventure to local businesses such as Ryan’s Deli. The Lake Adventure Community also hosts more than 100 children for swim competitions in addition to providing swimming lessons. Lake Adventure implores the Township officials to remove the restriction regarding the special hauling permit and treat the Lake Adventure Community fairly.

Lake Adventure Honors Veterans

Dingmans Ferry, PA (November 10, 2011) – The Lake Adventure Community Association Board of Directors is pleased to announce that it recently broke ground on the community’s Fallen Veterans Memorial monument. The monument, scheduled to be completed spring 2012, will honor all vets past and present and will be the center piece for all veteran memorial services.

Lake Adventure Community Association provides an enjoyable outdoor get-a-way and is a key promoter in helping drive the region’s visitors to the areas. The association, filled with up to 1,700 out-of-town RV owners, has a number of veterans, having served previously or are serving currently, and wanted to pay tribute to everyone who has helped keep our Country safe.

“We are really proud of what our vets have done for our Country and we wanted to do something for them,” explained Artey Berkey, Lake Adventure Community Association Board President. “We have a Veterans board in our clubhouse that hosts photos of Lake Adventure property owners when they fought in the war or if they are there now and we wanted to expand on our compassion for those that have served our great Country. We are also allowing property owners to purchase bricks with their names on it for the monument. We are quite proud of it.”

Any cost not covered by the brick sales will be paid for by The Lake Adventure Community Association Board.

The Fallen Veterans Memorial Monument will be located on the hill when you come into the community, so that it will be seen while driving on the main road in the community and will be constructed by Lake Adventure’s Maintenance staff alongside any Lake Adventure residents that wish to help. They will be contracting a local electrical company to assist with lighting.

While the memorial will not be complete in time for Veterans Day, there will still be a mini service to pay homage to our veterans. The association encourages people to visit the monument, leave flowers and say a prayer for our fallen heroes.

With its scheduled completion for spring, the association plans to have a great unveiling and ceremony on Memorial Day.

Throughout the years, Lake Adventure has become more than just a community of property owners. It’s become a place where people come to relax, make new friends, and create lasting memories, which is indicative of the erection of the monument and by all the county activities they participate in.

In the last decade, the community association has not only improved their facilities but has given back to the community.  In efforts to support the surrounding community, Lake Adventure employs 20 locals in year round positions such as security, property management, and office staff. To help further stimulate the local economy, Lake Adventure encourages all vacationers to shop and dine in the area as well renting out their kitchen to local business such as Ryan’s Deli. Their community also hosts more than 100 children for swim competitions in addition to providing swim lessons.
